No rest for the wicked - Day 7: Sisters to Ochoco Lake (46 miles)

Wow, it's hard to believe that we have been on the road for 7 days straight riding already. The past week has absolutely flown by and it has been a little difficult to take everything in that we have seen and come to terms with what we are actually doing. 2 months of riding is the goal and 1 week is done and dusted already.

Our life can be broken down into the simplest of day by day processes. We wake up each morning knowing exactly what we have to - that is to get from A to B by riding our bikes. We plan our route ahead every 3 days or so and just need to make sure we make it to that night's end destination no matter what happens during our riding day. Simplicity almost in its purest form.

We finally get to see Middle Sister as we ride out of Sisters

My plan was to have 1 rest day a week to give our bodies time to recuperate and recover from the week's riding. However, it seems that we are all feeling strong enough to keep on moving forward, so instead of having a rest day we will be covering our average of 60 miles per day for 2 days over 3 days - yesterday being a 39 mile day, today a 46 mile day and tomorrow a 40 mile day. It seems like a good idea now to just keep using our legs everyday on consecutive shorter days rather than rest them completely. Hopefully this won't come back to bite us in the bum at a later point in time during the coming week.

We have now entered Eastern Oregon and the climate has changed becoming very hot and dry. We are used to the heat from living in Southern Texas, but breathing in the dry air leaves me parched and quickly going through my water supplies. I think from now on we will be up early and trying to break camp by 8am to try and beat most of the heat of the day.

The scenery has also changed to dry farmland and desert type country side, with colourful rocky cliffs and plateaus. 2 dead deer on the roadside were not a pretty sight to ride past, absent doe eyes staring straight up at you from the road.

Katie's new bike setup. I miss following B.O.B
This reminded me of Texas (in Prineville)

Our camp for the night is right beside Ochoco Lake. The water is warmer than the icy rivers further to the west and our dip in the lake was our shower for the day to wash away the dust and road grit that always collects on our legs and arms after a days riding.
